what to do when waiting on God
One day I found myself crying in my car and questioning God why my season was not what I thought it to be.
Why was my life like this? Is this suppose to happen? Why that?
Do you ever make choices that have ultimately led you to a place where you thought you never would be and don’t want to ever want to be?
That’s where I am right now. You may be there right now too.
You’ve prayed to God for this, this, and that. But guess what? You haven’t received it. Then you wait patiently, hoping that the next season is the right season where you’ll finally get your new job, new/used car, or even moving into a new apartment.
But nothing has happened. You feel stuck, irritated, a bit angry, or even depressed. So then you try to work on getting these yourself. Except it leaves you frustrated, angry, and annoyed. You’re praying for a prayer request.
Have you ever done that before? I’ve done that plenty of times, I’m afraid to say. It has left me confused and almost left to give up my desires, what I want to do and enjoy in my life.
But then I thought of this (as I always do):
I have to remind myself that my life is not my own, but it is for Christ. Therefore, He knows what I need better than I know myself. So, if I do pray for something but do not receive it just yet, that doesn’t mean that I have to go out there and work myself to the bone without any direction or instruction.
“In vain, you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.” Psalm 127:2 NIV via bible gateway
what to do when waiting on God: be patient
Sometimes the Lord wants you to wait for a long time. Truthfully it will suck. You might be impatient. But this prayer request is not for His benefit but for yours. Maybe what you’ve asked for requires steps that may involve pain and obstacles. Just know that even though you prayed for something, it is not for your will. Every prayer you’ve asked for should always lead to His will.
Think of Abraham & Sarah
Thnk of Job
Think of Joseph
Think of Hannah
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24 NIV via bible gateway
what to do when waiting on God: remember past victories
If you’ve been waiting for something for a long time, just know that God has heard you. He REALLY has. If you don’t think He has, think about the past actions He has done for you. If you ponder on those answered prayers He’s done for you in the past, surely, He can answer your prayers this present and future.
Then there is waiting. Waiting, waiting, and waiting.
So what should we do while we wait for God’s hand?
- We praise God
- We thank God
- Keep reading His Words
- We continuously live today and make it the best we had, honoring God that day
- Enjoy your families and friends
- Participate in Hobbies and Interest you like
- Remember His Promises
- Take care of yourself
- Enjoy the life He has given you
- We keep praying without ceasing
Here are some things you shouldn’t do:
- Wallow in what you don’t have
- Look at others success and wonder why you’re not there
- Stressing yourself to getting what you want when you have no direction of where to start
You are human
Nothing is wrong with crying. And nothing is wrong with being sad. We’re humans; it just who we are. Nevertheless, perceive that no pain lasts unless you make it last.
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my savior and my God.” Psalm 43:5 NIV via bible gateway
So if you’re waiting for a prayer request and you’re awaiting it, it’s coming. Continue to place your hope in the Lord. And His Will Be Done.
What do you do as you wait on the Lord for your answered prayer?
Until next time, thrive with purpose.
