Your thoughts can easily be deceiving. What you allow in your thoughts is actually what would surface in your life. If you do not believe me, think of the many thoughts you have about yourself? Is it good? Bad?

Your environment can influence your thoughts. People can influence your thoughts. Even the enemy can influence your thoughts. Therefore, it is truly of utmost importance to understand that your thoughts can be easily deceived by anything around you. 

This post is about renewing your thoughts

So how do you lead your thoughts to good things? Admirable things? Faithful things? Overall, excellent things?

It is by the renewal of your mind.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2 

Why should we renew our thoughts? Because we cannot think as the world thinks. Our minds should be like Christ. The world seeks its own desire while we as Christians should desire the things of God that are not on earth but above.

Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. – Colossians 3:1

The Lord does not want us to live any kind of way. We are HIs children of course. And yes, we have Freedom, but Christ dying for us came at a price. So we should go forth sinning again? Of course not. 

And yes, we will make mistakes, but that does not mean we should do them intentionally. Whatever you sow, you will reap. 

So how can we change our thoughts that lead to excellent and pleasing thoughts that glorifies God?

This post will give you several considerations you should think about when it comes to renewing your thoughts.

Renewing Your Thoughts: Consider the TV/Movies You Watch

You may tell yourself that a TV show or a movie is just a TV show or a movie. Guess what? I was like that as well. There were certain shows that I would watch and binge, but they were not good at all. But that is not how we should live as Christians. It makes us seem like we’re careless about how we live our lives. God cares very much about how we live. You should too. If you are not sure of what shows or movies you should specifically watch, I indeed urge you to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. 

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord— – Isaiah 11:2

He will you everything you need to glorify God’s name for your life. 

We also have common sense. If you are into watching scary movies, does that praise the good things of God, or does it praise the enemy? Does it provide Godly things? I say this lightly because only the Holy Spirit can reveal the truth. And seek Him in this truth. Don’t tell yourself that it is just a movie to give you a little spook, or it is not scary. You may not know what it might do to your life, especially if praises ghost, demons, and all that disgusting stuff. 

I was there too. So I am not saying this because I have not done this. I have watched many scary movies for the sake of watching them, and I had to remove myself from that. There are certain movies, and tv shows that I use to watch that I don’t care about anymore because they open doors to demons in your life. This is not to scare you but to tell you to be careful and seek the Holy Spirit in this.

Renewing Your Thoughts: Consider Who You Are Surrounded By

I really believe that people can influence how we think. Whether it is a political belief or a personal statement, people affect us. But we cannot let everyone influence us. As Christians, it can be confusing to hear certain things about the Gospel, who God is, and this and that. 

And it can be hurtful to the point that it can literally drive you away from God and the true meaning of the Gospel. 

The Gospel is about the sovereignty of God and the downfall of man. It is about the Love of God and the sanctification of man through Jesus Christ. It is about understanding that this world is full of sin; therefore, we are full of sin. And because of that sin, we needed a savior who knew what we were going through and overcame all sins by carrying them on the cross. He carried the sins of the world so that we won’t have to anymore. 

Sin was bondage, but through Jesus Christ, we carry and live in Freedom. 

So it is necessary that we make sure that the words we hear are full of love and encouragement. So that it does not influence our thoughts and attitudes about something or someone. Not the opposite. Therefore, if one gossip, politely walks away from that. 

Remember that our lives should seek to please God and love people. 

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. – 1st Corinthians 13:4-7

***I did not mention reading per se, but what you read is critical as well. Overall, seek the Holy Spirit in whatever book or novel you choose to read. May it glorify God and inspire you to grow close to Him, however education or fun it is. 

Renewing Your Thoughts: Seek The Face of God

As Christians, it is always essential to spend time with the Lord. Spend time in His word, meditate, and talk to Him. In this way, you are already setting yourself for success. Seeking God in everything is necessary so that whatever you need, He will provide for the day. 

Let His thoughts fill you so that when you do go about your day, He will guide you to what is good and what is not good. But even when you intentionally sin, immediately confess your sins.

For, honestly, I was influenced by the world. I would watch certain things, say certain things, and even do certain things to please others and let it fill a hole in my heart. Though I knew God, though I was a Christian, I did not live for Him entirely. Sure, I would go to church and read my bible, but it was due to regulations and religion taught from a young age. It was not an authentic relationship with Him. 

Though I am still learning, my renewed thinking of my relationship with Him has been different. And it is still growing and maturing in Jesus Christ’s name. He is still pruning me, but I would not want it any other way. 

I hope He is doing the same for you. Trust me, your mindset and lifestyle will change dramatically, but it is a good thing. 

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. – Philippians 4:8

Renewing your thoughts is about how you view God entirely and how the impacts He has on your life.

God loves you; that’s a fact. He loves you too much, for you live a certain life that does not please Him. So our lives should reflect Him. Our choices should glorify Him. And In particular, our thoughts of who we are in Him through Jesus Christ.
