I Am Restored – Book Thoughts

I Am Restored. A book about a man’s restoration with the LORD, but reading this book also gave me some thoughts about our walk as Christians.

I was given this book by my brother for Christmas some times ago but never got to read it as earlier I would have wanted. However, I got to read it, finished it, and I thought it was a kind, heartfelt book. The book revealed the real side of what it is like to be a Christian “celebrity.” However, I’m not too fond of that term because I believe they are humans pursuing their desires as most do. However, in his life, it is not all good and glitter.

He went through what most of us have encountered from childhood to adulthood, whether childhood trauma or lack of parental involvement. This book shows many behaviors that separate us from God. Still, through relearning what it means to believe in GOD and walk with God, restoration came that he understood that God is not far off; GOD listens to everyone’s prayers. GOD desires an authentic relationship with you.

I recommend reading if you want to enjoy autobiographies or just like books about resilient people. I would mention prodigal son types of books. For myself, in books like these, I appreciate contemplating the person’s life and how they went through stages that eventually led them to get back to being who God has called them to be.

I am Restored: I Was Lost, but Now I am Found

I would say this with prudence: We are not supposed to idolize anyone, especially celebrities. I enjoyed reading this book because it enabled me to read about someone’s experience with GOD and how GOD led the person to HIM. He was drawing his child to HIm as the child was seeking Him, and that to me gives GOD all the glory.

This post will highlight specific scripts the author wrote that caught my attention. Then I would write about my thought regarding what was said. Leave a comment below if you have experienced any of these things. Hopefully, GOD has turned your situation around. Still, when you place your hurt and burdens before Him, he turns it around.

“But we had to celebrate and be glad because your brother was dead and alive again; he was lost and is found.” Luke 15:32 NIV

So let’s get started.

I Am Restored, Chapter 2: You Look Like Your Father

“The man who wasn’t present for most of my childhood was imprisoned by his own fears, bound by his own mistakes. He was plagued with addictions he couldn’t beat, expectations he couldn’t fulfill.”

Though I cannot empathize nor know what it must mean not to have a father at a young age (though I can easily empathize with people who have lost their fathers in their late adulthood), I understand the meaning of fear, which most of us experience. We’re so entrapped by our desires that we do not look to the Abba Father for help, and I am sometimes one of those people. Plus, we know that fear hinders our relationships with GOD and others.

But GOD did not give us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and sound of mind. Fear does not come from GOD because GOD does not impose nor experience fear. Therefore, as children of God, we aren’t to dwell in fear. In one of my testimony, I mentioned that pride was something that held I held on to, and receiving healing from pornography was difficult because I was afraid to come to Abba Father.

GOD has not given us a spirit of fear!

Still, I had to unlearn the fact that GOD was not the GOD whom we should fear, especially if we want to receive mercy, but the GOD who we should fear appropriately, knowing that He is the one that created all the good things around us and redirects our life to be made new and be completed in HIM.

Also, when we are in Christ, we are not bound to the sins of past mistakes. The past does not define us; in Christ, we are children of God (John 1:12), and we are made new. Even if you are reminded that your past is all you have, know that GOD’s WORD says. We are a new creature; the old has gone, the new has come. So those addictions and things are broken if only we believe that they are broken.

But, let me tell you: it may not be an overnight deliverance or healing, but holding on to being made new is more than enough for GOD to change your life around.

I Am Restored, Chapter 3: Church Hurt Is The Worst

“I’m learning that much of our understanding of GOD is shaped by whose version of Christianity we find most appealing. Most of us interact with church through our own experiences.”

This is what I found to be true. As Christians, most of us are attracted to what the Bible calls ‘itching ears.’ We desire to hear something that only fits our desires rather than the desires of GOD. Such an example is the prosperity gospel. Nothing is wrong with being prosperous, but that is not our drive nor our purpose. Our purpose is to spread the gospel about Christ.

Still, suppose you are using the WORD of GOD for personal gain. In that case, you have itching ears, hearing things you want to attend to based on the three things that conduct this world: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. And that is wrong.

“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, gather around them many teachers to say what their itching want to hear.” 2 Timothy 4:3 NIV.

Therefore, it is essential to read the bible and equip yourself with what is truth instead of myth.

I Am Restored, Chapter 4: Is This It?

“The more I saw the reality of celebrities’ lives behind the scenes, the more I saw how unfulfilled they were. I was one of them.”

Reading made me think that nothing in life will be satisfying no matter how much you have. I don’t know if Lecrae has ever read Solomon’s Ecclesiastes, but Solomon had everything, yet he had nothing. So what was the best advice he gave? It is better to enjoy life and the work God has given us under the sun (Ecclesiastes 8:15).

Some of us look to celebrities thinking that they have all the answers when in reality, they’re humans just like us, trying to understand life. However, the difference between them and us is that we have Jesus Christ, and they need Jesus Christ. Because he encountered Christian celebrities as well, we should pray for them that GOD gives them what they need to stand for truth and not blend with the world’s lifestyle.

“I didn’t feel like I could go to GOD. I didn’t think he cared; I figured he was preoccupied with other things or just not speaking to me anymore.”

This same feeling came about when I when I was watching pornography. Personally, I felt so bad that it was hard coming to God because I thought He would not forgive me for my sins. But when I finally had enough of watching it, I came to GOD with a broken, contrite heart. I was ashamed, and I needed this shame and disgrace to be taken away from me. And it was soon after I did not have the feeling of watching it anymore. That, my friend, was a miracle that only could come from GOD. Read my post on this, but know that it is the Merciful GOD. Nothing is impossible with GOD.

I Am Restored, Chapter 7: Opening The Closet

” I already knew God was real, but I needed intellectual proof that Christianity wasn’t just some Western religion drenched in white supremacy. The gospel is a global story, with people from every tribe, tongue, and nation.”

I liked this because GOD is not found in a box but found in the hearts of all tribes and nations. But what I have read from the book is that Christians are using the WORD for their own personal and thinking their version of the gospel is right. I think we all need to reread the WORD of GOD with the Holy Spirit that reveals the truth. We’re so separated by the actual definition of GOD and all that He is. Some believe in the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues, while others don’t. Some believe in baptism, while some don’t think it is necessary.

Also, the gospel is not only found in the confine of the United States but there are Christians all around the world who have experienced Jesus Christ one way or another. And that makes me glad because Jesus Christ came for the world, and for the world to know Jesus Christ, well, almost (Matthew 24:14), is good news. I hope this blog reaches people worldwide because Jesus Christ and the Love of GOD have to be made known.

There were more things I highlighted, but these were the things that caught my attention that I wanted to use as encouragement, and hopefully, you can relate. No matter who we are, I think some of us find ourselves lost in the Christianity “world” and have made it into something that fits our lifestyle rather than the other way around. It’s not right; therefore, repenting before GOD with a contrite heart is necessary and allow the WORD of GOD to transform us (Romans 12:2).

Until Next Time.
